Back Pain Treatment

Back Pain

One of the most common reasons to visit a doctor or miss work. This can range from a muscle ache or stabbing and shooting sensation that can start from one part of the back and radiate to the body’s extremities like the arms and legs. Home treatments can usually alleviate the problem, but in severe cases, more treatment and medications are needed.

Risk factors

Back pain is more common as we age. Lack of exercise, excess weight, improper lifting, and psychological conditions may increase the risk of back pain.

Symptoms

It can present itself as muscle aching to a shooting, burning or stabbing sensation.

Superficial heat, massage, acupuncture, or spinal manipulation

Medication

  • ibuprofen

White Mountain Pharmacy Tip

Opioids are commonly prescribed for back pain despite an overall lack of evidence to support its efficacy. You should speak to your doctor to find the cause of your pain and learn what medication (if any) is best for you.
